Let's restore the native forests, together!

Boomforest promotes the creation of native forests without maintenance, in every terrain and also in urban zones. We stimulate the reforestation process using the Miyawaki plantation method. Those forests grow very fast (till 1 metre per year), are denser and contain a greater biodiversity with respect to classic afforestation methods. Moreover, they provide a positive social impact. These mini-forests can be easily planted everywhere in any kind of soil, being founded on the selection of specific local seeds, e.g. on residential zones, criss-cross squares, school buildings, enterprise and factory yards, river bords or marine coasts. Take e look to the values and purpose of Boomforest.

With respect to a classic woodland, a Miyawaki forest is:

Denser

With 3 saplings per square meters, the density is much higher to that obtained by a classic reforestation, this playing an effective role against air and water pollution, beside a noise and visual barrier.

Richer in biodiversity

Biodiversity is more important than a classic wood. With local plant communities composed of around 30 species when planting, soil life, animal and vegetal species quickly flourishes in the new ecosystem.

Faster growth

Dense planting favours a virtuous competition between young trees, which will grow fast to stay in the competition for light. On average, the trees grow one meter per year!

Self-sustained

Thanks to the selection of native species adapted to the local environment and their diversity, the plantation is completely autonomous after 3 years. Before that, it must be maintained by a little weeding, that's all!

Boomforest #1: Paris
Plantation of the open source forest

As Paris is in need of more quality vegetation throughout the city, the Boomforest team decided in 2016 to apply an effective reforestation method from the japanese botanist Prof. Akira Miyawaki. This resulted in a real forest created in the city in March 2018. Thanks to the Budget Participatif grant from the municipality of Paris 2016 edition it was possible to find the budget to create the forest and obtain the permission to do it in a portion next of the Boulevard Péripherique ring road.

Boomforest #2 in 2019

Another mini-forest was created in November 2019 in Paris (Porte des Lilas, Paris 20), France

Boomforest #3 and #4 in 2020

In 2020 our NGO partnered with other local organizations to create two new plantation projects:

- in Paris intra-muros, we planted in the 17th district with the community garden "Les Hauts de Malesherbes"
- on Nanterre university campus, we planted with students and the innovative LABEESS student organization

A federation

Boomforest incentivises project cooperation among different actors of reforestation and the restauration of biodiversity.
Feel free to contact us to know more on how to federate, if you share the Boomforest values and purpose.

The Miyawaki method

Pr. Miyawaki observed the trees which traditionally grew around temples, shrines, and cemeteries in Japan were native species, relics of the primary forest and at the same time he calculated that only 0.06% of contemporary Japanese forests were indigenous forests. Contemporary forests, created according to forestry principles, are not in his view the most resilient nor the best suited vegetation for the geobioclimatic conditions in Japan, neither are they the most suited to address climate change. >> More on the Miyawaki method
